What’s better than a floating caliper braking setup? You guessed right, a fixed caliper setup like the 4-piston front brakes found on the FK8 and also latest Civic Type R FL5 & Integra Type S DE5. Why did Honda decide to switch up and use this Brembo system vs. going the route of a floating caliper like they do on the base trims? Performance! But what if you want even more performance than Honda intended?
Look, even Honda has limits. They can’t feed the need for outright performance because they need to save on costs and make sure the car appeals to the general public. And that’s exactly why we look towards the aftermarket to deliver a solution for those owners that want even better braking performance. We’re talking about better thermal capacity, better feel, better consistency, and more predictable results whether you’re driving hard on the Street or doing back-to-back 20-minute Track sessions all weekend long.
So, what’s the TLDR? You now have two ways to upgrade the front brakes on your Civic Type R or Integra Type S.Go all-in with our completeFront 6-Piston Big Brake Kit, which pairs our 6-piston calipers with upgraded 355mm two-piece slotted rotors, Street brake pads, DOT-approved stainless steel brake lines, brackets, and installation hardware. Or choose our uniqueFront 6-Piston Caliper Upgradeand get the same 27WON 6-piston calipers, Street pads, stainless lines, hardware, and a revised application-specific mounting bracketwhile keeping your current front rotors.
We’re no stranger to Big Brake Kits.We developed our first Civic Brake Kit about a decade ago and it’s become the de-facto braking upgrade for the 1.5T 10th Gen CivicX platform. Now, we bring that expertise over to the 2.0T models such as the FK8, FL5, and DE5.
What Honda did right is they went with a 4-piston fixed caliper from the factory, but we felt we could take things a step further with alarger aluminum 6-piston caliper. More caliper capacity, a larger brake pad, and six staggered pistons give us a braking package designed aroundbetter pedal feel, improved heat management, more consistent pad wear, and repeatable braking performancewhether you’re driving hard on the Street or stacking lap after lap at the Track.
The pistons themselves are constructed fromstainless steel, helping resist heat transfer from the brake pad and caliper into the brake fluid. That matters when repeated hard braking starts generating serious temperature and you want the pedal to stay consistent.
Choose the completeFront 6-Piston Big Brake Kitand we pair these calipers with our larger 355mm two-piece rotors. Choose the simplerFront 6-Piston Caliper Upgradeand a revised mounting bracket positions the same 27WON 6-piston caliper correctly with the retained front rotor setup on the FK8, FL5, or DE5.
Early versions of the Honda Type R FK8 didn’t use a two-piece rotor, but midway through production Honda caught on and switched to a factory two-piece rotor for better performance. That factory setup still leaves room for improvement in weight, durability, and serviceability.
Choose our complete Front 6-Piston Big Brake Kit and you’ll also receive our upgraded 355mm two-piece slotted front rotors.Two-piece construction helps reduce unnecessary weight and makes the rotor more serviceable because the outer iron rotor ring can be replaced independently of the aluminum hat. We also use a slotted surface to help evacuate pad debris and gases during repeated hard braking better.
Want a lower cost of entry? That’s why we also introduced the new Front 6-Piston Caliper Only Upgrade option. Instead of requiring our larger 355mm rotor package, this configuration uses arevised caliper mounting bracket specifically designed to position the 27WON 6-piston caliper correctly with the factory FK8, FL5, or DE5 front rotor setup. You still get the calipers, Street brake pads, DOT-approved stainless steel brake lines, mounting hardware, and everything needed for the conversion justwithout the upgraded rotors.
A braking upgrade wouldn’t be complete without ditching those stock rubber brake lines. Although Honda did go some length making sure a good portion of the line is already metal, they didn’t take it all the way and so our included brake lines finish the job.
Both the Front 6-Piston Big Brake Kit and Front 6-Piston Caliper Upgrade include DOT-approved stainless steel brake lines. These replace the remaining stock rubber sections that work fine on the Street but can contribute to a softer or mushier pedal sensation when the braking system is being pushed hard.
Two configurations are available:the complete Front 6-Piston Big Brake Kit with 355mm 27WON rotors or the Front 6-Piston Caliper Upgrade without rotors.
The Front 6-Piston Caliper Upgrade does NOT include front brake rotors. This configuration includes 27WON 6-piston calipers, Blue Street brake pads, DOT-approved stainless steel brake lines, revised application-specific caliper brackets, and mounting hardware. Follow Honda FSM for replacement procedures on OEM rotors when minimum thickness is reached. Worn, damaged or warped rotors will cause excessive brake pad wear
The 27WON 6-piston brake system is designed to be used with 18" or larger diameter wheels. OEM FK8/FL5/DE5 wheels do not require use of a wheel spacer with the applicable 27WON brake configuration
Due to the larger 27WON caliper & shape, the un-swept area of the rotor nearest the hub will increase slightly. 27WON brake pads are wider, but not as tall as the OE pad.
Supplied Blue Street pads are intended for spirited Street use. For Track use we recommend Race-specific pads that can be purchased with your brake kit.To purchase a set of Blue Street replacement pads direct from us clickhere.
For the complete Front 6-Piston Big Brake Kit with our 355mm two-piece rotors only:30mm is the minimum rotor thicknessbefore replacement is required. These rotors can be turned down on a lathe but not past the minimum 30mm.Replacement rotors and rotor rings are available.Call to order 571-271-0271
Both 6-piston brake configurations come standard with our Blue Street brake pads. These pads are designed around real-world drivability, spirited Street use, and occasional light-duty performance driving.
Planning to repeatedly put serious temperature into the braking system at the Track? Step up to our optionalRed Race padsor choose from a variety of compatible performance compounds from manufacturers such as Hawk, Ferodo, and AP Racing.
This gives you the freedom to match the pad compound to how you actually use the car instead of being locked into one option. You can keep one set for the Street and another for serious Track duty and swap between them as needed.
Note: our Race pads are not recommended for regular daily driving. They’re called Race pads for a reason!
We know fitment is important, so we designed both versions of our 6-piston front brake upgrade around the rotor package they’re intended to use.Billet steel caliper brackets and Class 12.9 mounting hardware are includedso you have the correct components for the job.
TheFront 6-Piston Big Brake Kituses a bracket designed around our 355mm two-piece rotor package while theFront 6-Piston Caliper Upgrade uses a slightly different, revised bracketto correctly position the same 27WON 6-piston caliper with the factory FK8, FL5, or DE5 front rotor setup.
All brake pads require proper bed-in and it’s important to correctly bleed your brake fluid anytime you replace the braking components (all instructions included).

Wow, what can I say? I’ve had this tune on my car for the better part of this year. The Rehan is largely produced. I mostly run in map too when I wanna go a little faster but map one is still good for every day driving. I get phenomenal gas mileage even when I’m on the freeway plenty of road trips across the state. I’m getting us high as even 40 miles per gallon still but when I’m ripping it hard cross the life of the car and the tune I still get about 30 miles per gallon, which is awesome and it pulls so much harder.
PRL fabricates extremely performance driven quality products. This PRL High Volume Intake System with duct is no exception.
I can actually hear the boost now. Paired with my TSP Stage 1 Tune, Skunk2 intercooler, and MBRP Race Performance exhaust system, throttle response is exceptional and nearly instantaneous.
Turbo upgrade, PRL Down pipe, Flex Fuel Sensor, and Turbo Inlet Tube kit are my next mods on the list for instantaneous throttle response and performance results.
I anticipate no issues with the Skunk2 Racing intercooler. It is nearly twice the size of my Civic’s stock intercooler. The welds are clean and fluid, and structurally strong. It looks great in my lower front grill as well. Performance is much improved!
