So while tuning my car and working on managing heat a Turbo blanket comes up almost immediately whenever you start researching. I'm so happy I got one, it fits great, and the difference was noticable. Turbo spools quicker and my engine bay doesn't heat up nearly as much as it use to, but keep in mind I also wrapped my downpipe and added reflective tape to help with this. For how much it cost, if you're going to push your car like I do mine, get one, no questions about it.
I've been staring at exhaust systems for my car for a long time, waiting for 27Won to release their's for the 11th Gen Sport Touring Hatchback (I lent mine to their R&D department for fitment, and there's a lot it needs - meaning none of the pre-existing offerings weren't viable), but it hasn't come out still and I didn't want to keep waiting after having done most of the engine bolt ons.
With them off the list I moved on to Functionwerks and Remark, two opposite ends of the spectrum, but both sounded good in the videos I was able to see on each while shopping around. Again, not 100% sold on either, and for the cost the Remark was starting to look like the option for me.
Then Unity Performance mentioned via email that they installed this exhaust and that it had a deeper tone than the Remark. I've been back and forth with them on various mods that I've done and that their employees have done to their 11th gen. I'm happy to say I listened, as the deeper tone was most appealing, and not long after I got the chance to listen to a Remark system on my exact car (Not tuned but still a good experience). Thankfully it didn't change my mind, the deeper tone of the MBRP is great, the install is simple enough, although either I missed it or they didn't recommend it but exhaust rtv is a good idea to prevent leaks. I also recommend making sure that everything is tucked up and into the exhaust tunnel properly, if you lower your 11th gen, like all 11th gens that are lowered you could bounce the resonator off of speed bumps or steep angled driveways. The optional race mid pipe is a great piece to have, so if I do track it, I can swap it out and really let it scream. The tone in on the low end is nice and deep, no droning, and it definitely burbles. At higher RPM, it really makes itself known, all the while without making any weird droning noises, and still sounds great. It doesn't have a higher pitched noise like the Remark does, you'll know what I mean if you've heard it, and again I'm glad I went this route. The only thing I might change are the tips, the carbon tips were $500 more when I purhcased mine, and not worth it at the time, but I may go with something else just to see if I like it more or not. Unity recommended I think an Audi exhaust tip if you want to make it look factory+, it takes the place of the factory exhaust tips for the Sport Touring, and you just leave the MBRP tips off and it should fit. I would look into it and be prepared to make some alterations but it sounds like I have an option to run a bit more stealth.
Realing this all back in - I highly recommend this exhaust over the Remark option, although sound is preference so do what you want to do, but it is definitely worth it. Use exhaust RTV when installing, save yourself some time later on.
TSP makes it easy to go FBO with their PRL packages. They were helpful and accommodating in my requests. Can't wait to get these parts installed!
There’s definitely a difference in sound with the new SRI. Makes the ride much more enjoyable.
