What’s better than a floating caliper braking setup? You guessed right, a fixed caliper setup like the 4-piston front brakes found on the FK8 and also latest Civic Type R FL5 & Integra Type S DE5. Why did Honda decide to switch up and use this Brembo system vs. going the route of a floating caliper like they do on the base trims? Performance! But what if you want even more performance than Honda intended?
Look, even Honda has limits. They can’t feed the need for outright performance because they need to save on costs and make sure the car appeals to the general public. And that’s exactly why we look towards the aftermarket to deliver a solution for those owners that want even better braking performance. We’re talking about better thermal capacity, better feel, better consistency and more predictable results whether you’re driving hard on the street or doing back-to-back 20-minute track sessions all weekend long.
So, what’s the TLDR? We’ve created an all-new Front 6-Piston Big Brake upgrade. 6-piston calipers in your choice of Red or Black, two-piece 355mm slotted rotors, DOT-approved stainless steel brake lines, and an included set of brake pads suitable for the Street and Light-duty Auto-X. Simply bolt on, bed-in, and go.
We’re no stranger to Big Brake Kits. We developed our first Civic Brake Kit about a decade ago and it’s become the de-facto braking upgrade for the 1.5T 10th Gen CivicX platform. Now, we bring that expertise over to the 2.0T models such as the FK8, FL5, and DE5.
What Honda did right is they went with a 4-piston setup from factory but we felt we could take things a step further with a larger aluminum 6 piston caliper. This helps with thermal capacity and also allows for a slightly larger rotor. Now, 6 pistons are great, but we also employed staggered piston sizing on them for better balance and improved pad wear. These pistons are constructed using stainless steel meaning less chance of boiling your brake fluid and inducing brake fade because this type of steel resists heat much better.
Early versions of the Honda Type R FK8 didn’t use a two-piece rotor, but midway through production of that model, Honda caught on and switched to a factory two-piece rotor for better performance. That setup was prone to cracking and was heavy (around 24-25lbs). What took them so long?
The Big Brake Kit we designed here starts with a two-piece rotor from the get-go. Two-piece rotors are lighter and shedding weight in this part of your vehicle is ideal. These are also more serviceable because you can replace the outer rotor ring without having to also switch out your hub. We then made the rotors slotted which helps exhaust gasses escape the pad under hard braking minimizing the chance for brake fade.
A braking upgrade wouldn’t be complete without ditching those stock rubber brake lines. Although Honda did go some length making sure a good portion of the line is already metal, they didn’t take it all the way and so our included brake lines finish the job.
These DOT-approved lines replace your stock rubber lines which work fine on the Street but can often give off a mushy sensation under hard braking.
The 27WON BBK is designed to be used with 18" inch or larger diameter wheels
OEM FK8/FL5/DE5 wheels do not require use of wheel spacer
Supplied "blue sport pads" are intended for spirited Street use. For Track use we recommend Race specific pads that can be purchased with your BBK. To purchase a set of Blue Sport replacement pads direct from us clickhere.
30mm is the minimum rotor thickness before replacement is required. These rotors can be turned down on a lathe but not past the minimum 30mm. Replacement rotors and rotor rings are available. Call to order 571-271-0271
This kit comes with a set of Street (blue) brake pads standard. Not something you’ll find in most other kits. We offer another option if you intend to track consistently in the form of a Race (red) Pad. Simplify specify you want these additional Race pads included and it’s added to your BBK at checkout. This means you now have one set of pads for the Street and one set for the Track and you’re free to swap these out as you please. Note, these Race pads are not recommended for use in daily driving…they are called Race pads for a reason!
We know fitment is important and we designed this kit to be drop-in and go. We include billet steel brackets and class 12.9 hardware so install is a breeze. Note, all brake pads require bed-in (instructions included) and it’s important to bleed your brake fluid anytime you swap out your calipers.

Install is pretty straightforward
Both the quality and fitment of the part are on par with what you would expect from this company.
NVH increase over the oem mount is barely noticeable, there is a very minor vibration that is felt at idle but once driving you dont feel it at all.
The engine feels much more stable under wot now and to top it off the part looks good too
Opting for the 2-step performance shipping protection was an absolute no-brainer. When investing in high-end components, the transit phase can often introduce unnecessary anxiety. This service effectively mitigates that risk, offering complete peace of mind and transforming what is usually a stressful waiting period into a seamless, secure experience.
I ordered the red one for the 11th gen Civic SI. Well packaged and came with a Wunderladen sticker. This is a big upgrade over the cheap plastic orange dipstick that came with the car. Its worth the money to be able to reliably read your oil level, especially on a direct injected turbo car.
